Given the light weight of Spiralite, on-site logistics and manual handling are greatly simplified. Furthermore, due to ease of adapting Spiralite on-site, installation is quick, flexible and cost effective, which is further enhanced by the use of the Gripple wire hanging systems, where appropriate.
Where there is room to assemble Spiralite on-site, it can also be delivered to site and to the installation area in a flat-packed format and this further increases speed and efficiency.
This is optimised where Excel Portam are installing both the ductwork systems and the pipework insulation, as the same installers are performing multiple and complementary tasks with the same contract/project managers co-ordinating and managing their activities. Furthermore, the nature of the products, as described above, optimises ease and speed of installation, variations, defect rectification and project completion. In particular, co-ordination is simplified as Spiralite is installed in a single operation without the requirement for access for lagging as a second site operation. Secondly, it is relatively easy to manhandle our ductwork through restricted spaces in long lengths, again without the subsequent need to lag the ductwork.
Other site advantages from pre-insulated ductwork and pre-cut and weatherproofed insulation:
Spiralite combines two tried and tested products – Kingspan phenolic insulation panels and the VentureTape (a 3M Company) laminates, and engineers them into a rounded duct shape. We use these materials as they are the best that we can find anywhere in the world and come with warranties that are unprecedented in the industry and shows the level of confidence that our suppliers have in Spiralite®.
Furthermore, Kingspan phenolic insulation panel is the only thermoset insulation in the world to pass the 13 tests within Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 181 – Factory-Made Air Ducts. No other Phenolic or PIR/PUR has passed this strenuous set of physical tests that allows it to be classed as UL listed, which listing has been retained since 2000.
Provided Spiralite is handled and stored properly, accidental damage will be avoided. In any event, any damage is easy to repair or replace with new sections. Minor damage can be repaired with reinforced foil tape and a more seriously damaged section can easily be cut out and a new section inserted using standard connecting pieces. To date damage has not been a problem on the sites that have used Spiralite.
