Pre-fabricated modules

Pre-fabricated modules

With the wider application of building information modelling (BIM) and a push for construction cost efficiencies, prefabrication of multiple services is now integral in delivering many types of projects – from commercial office buildings and residential accommodation to data centres and healthcare facilities. Spiralite pre-insulated ductwork is ideally suited to prefabricated modules and has been successfully implemented on a number of projects for both internal and external ductwork.

  • Spiralite weighs less and can easily be slid into the module for any length
  • The internal connecting system has no flanges or other protrusions to hamper its smooth progress
  • No second stage fitting necessary for insulation, avoiding any complicated and time consuming lagging process, saving time, space and money
  • The ducting goes from the heaviest component to the lightest component of the module, making it easier to transport and install
  • There is no requirement for special vapour seals as the ducting is effectively self-sealing
  • On installation of the module on site, the easy coupling system allows for quick and airtight connections

If additional insulation for pipework or ductwork is required in the module, our insulation products are typically half the thickness of the mineral wool equivalent for the same thermal performance, and are easy to fit to saving time and space.

A prefabricated external unit was designed into the new, state-of-the-art Cancer Centre at Guy’s Hospital, where the complete unit was craned in saving £1million on scaffolding costs. Guy’s Cancer Centre has been designed by architect Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and specialist healthcare architect Stantec. Arup provided integrated design engineering services. Main contractor Laing O’Rourke built the Cancer Centre and led the project team.
