UK Green Building Council

As a member of the UK Green Building Council, we have agreed to actively support and adhere to UK-GBC’s vision for a built environment that enables a high quality of life for people, within limits our planet can support. UK-GBC engages its members in advocating a progressive message to Government on green building policies, and has had a real impact on issues such as zero carbon new build, retrofit of existing homes, and operational energy measurement and reporting. Buildings and infrastructure have a big impact on both the environment and our quality of life.

As part of that involvement, Spiralite worked with the design team to refurbish the London Headquarters to meet and exceed energy efficiency standards and improve the quality of the working environment for the staff. The project has now been completed and achieved an exemplar small-scale, sustainable office refurbishment, featuring a range of innovative well being measures, delivering a space that is both better for people, and better for the environment.

Key stats:

  • 139 kgCO2/m2 – Embodied carbon footprint 22% below a comparable ‘standard’ fit-out and the lowest ever recorded in the UK (SCP database, WRAP database)*
  • 48% decrease in carbon emissions from lighting
  • 99.4% of construction waste diverted from landfill
  • 98% of original fixtures and finishes reused or repurposed

*The SCP database is a proprietary database of embodied carbon in building products used to calculate the total embodied carbon footprint of the fit out. The WRAP Embodied Carbon database is an open access tool which aims to benchmark projects’ embodied carbon calculations.
